What type of neuroscience research do you do and what got you interested in this research?

I'm studying sex differences and the impact of estrogen fluctuations. I became interested in this area when I learned the potent influence hormones have on neuronal function and how their loss during aging significantly contributes to neurodegenerative diseases. 

What challenges did you encounter along the way, and how did you overcome these challenges?

My two biggest challenges have been:

1. Recording from my region of interest, the locus coeruleus due to its small size and precarious location deep in the brainstem under a major sinus, and
2. Processing the data collected. I've been very fortunate to have mentors and collaborators with expertise I can lean on to overcome these challenges and significantly enhance my technical and analytical skills.
