DALLAS, TX — (January 2, 2014) – Plexon Inc, the leader in advanced hardware and software solutions for neuroscience and behavioral research, announces the much anticipated launch of the second version of its Radiant software driving advanced, multichannel optogenetic stimulation as part of the turn-key PlexBright Optogenetic Stimulation System.

Light sources for optogenetics, LEDs or lasers, dictate the wavelength and maximum output possible. However, for research applications they require intelligence that is flexible enough to control very specific stimulation – such as when to start and stop stimulation; how to set the pulse width or frequency; how to design a simple or complex stimulation pattern; or maybe how many times the pattern is to be repeated. This is where Radiant 2.0 operating the PlexBright 4 Channel Controller becomes invaluable.

Radiant and the PlexBright 4 Channel Controller are the cornerstones of the PlexBright Optogenetic Stimulation System (PlexBright System). Together, they offer unsurpassed control of LEDs and/or lasers over multiple, independent channels. Radiant 2.0’s newly enhanced pattern generation functionality allows researchers to quickly define simple to complex output patterns that may be saved and played back repeatedly. Pattern definition can even be performed offline for later use! Arbitrary stimulation patterns can also be loaded from user defined text files, or the outputs can be controlled directly by the user in manual mode.

Each channel/output may be configured to deliver up to 1100mA of precision-controlled current to one or two PlexBright LED Modules. Alternatively, outputs may be configured to deliver up to a 5V signal, enabling simultaneous control of both LED modules and lasers. With eight digital inputs and 16 digital outputs, Radiant 2.0 and the PlexBright 4 Channel Controller can easily interface with third-party equipment as part of a more elaborate experimental set-up. For higher volume research experiments, Radiant 2.0 enables the integration of up to four PlexBright 4 Channel Controllers simultaneously operated by a single computer – yielding up to 16 channels of independent output.

As a demonstration of Plexon’s appreciation and good will during the holidays, Plexon is offering a complimentary upgrade to Radiant 2.0 and the most current version of the PlexBright 4 Channel Controller to all customers who ordered a PlexBright 4 Channel Controller with Radiant in 2013.
