Offline Sorter™ v3.3 with New PL2™ File Format Support
June 26, 2013

DALLAS, TX — (June 26, 2013) – Plexon Inc, the leader in advanced hardware and software solutions for neuroscience and behavioral research, announces the next release of their industry leading neural spike sorting software, Offline Sorter™ v3.3, now with the added functionality to read Plexon’s game-changing new PL2™ file format. Depending on the file characteristics, individual channel loading can be 10, 100 or even 1,000 times faster!

Offline Sorter is the most recognized and trusted offline spike sorting software in the industry today, with more than 800 publications specifically citing its use. In addition to reading Plexon file types, it reads file types from many data acquisition systems and software programs across the industry.

Once neural data has been recorded and saved using the OmniPlex® Neural Data Acquisition System, researchers often load the data into Offline Sorter to separate the individual signals. Alternatively, they may directly read the data into MATLAB® or another program for analysis. With more high-resolution data being recorded over more channels for longer periods of time, the file size quickly becomes unwieldy. Data preparation and analysis time is greatly increased as commonly used tools run through the data channel by channel. The time to read these large files into programs such Offline Sorter can be significant, possibly even untenable taking many hours.

To address this issue, Plexon has taken the lead once again advancing its original industry-standard recording format to develop a game-changing new file format that significantly improves the efficiency of the analysis process. In an announcement earlier today, Plexon launched PL2, its new file format, enabling the loading of large, high-resolution data files faster than ever before. With PL2, loading large data into Offline Sorter is hundreds of times faster.

In addition to the added PL2 functionality, Offline Sorter v3.3 is packed with new features and improvements including a new tool to invalidate high-amplitude artifacts; a completely re-written Waveforms View for much faster rendering of a large number of waveforms; the addition of alignment during waveform extraction; support for enhanced PCA; the ability to define Time Segments interactively and invalidate waveforms in the current segment via the Timeline View right click menu; and much more.
