CinePlex Behavior Recognition Functionality
October 14, 2012

DALLAS, TX — (October 14, 2012) – Plexon Inc, the leader in advanced hardware and software solutions for neuroscience research, unveiled the new CinePlex® Behavior Recognition option today at Neuroscience 2012, further establishing Plexon and its CinePlex Behavior Research System as an industry leader in the space. CinePlex Behavior Recognition joins three other options – CinePlex Tracking, CinePlex Basic Behavior and CinePlex 3D – within CinePlex Studio, the core program driving Plexon’s leading CinePlex Behavioral Research System. It significantly advances the digital translation of activity into detectable behavior. While CinePlex Basic Behavior, answers questions regarding the timing, speed and sequencing of an animal’s locomotion, the new CinePlex Behavior Recognition option answers questions relating to what activity the animal is actually performing. The program is reliably able to detect body postures and corresponding behaviors including walking, running, stretching, rearing, body turning, head turning, sniffing, grooming, and more. The researcher trains the program by assigning each relevant posture observed to a corresponding behavior tag. The system then executes the automatic recognition of the different behaviors by analyzing video files recorded from a top-view camera and detecting body features required for recognition. Additional parameters, such as speed levels and proximity to zones of interest if implementing CinePlex Basic Behavior, can be used in the analysis significantly expands the meaningful analysis that can be performed. “Behavioral research is a high priority for Plexon and has been for almost a decade. Historically, we have focused on optimizing both the video tracking and analysis performed by the CinePlex System as well as the timestamp synchronization with our neural data acquisition systems,” explains Harvey Wiggins, president of Plexon Inc. “This new CinePlex Behavior Recognition option has been designed to more effectively aid the pure behaviorist conducting experiments in which he or she is not likely to be incorporating simultaneous recording of neural signals. We look forward to the industry’s response to the product.” Researchers are invited to stop by booth number 1939 for a demonstration and full explanation of the CinePlex Behavior Recognition functionality.
