This position will contribute to active research projects in a basic neuroscience lab investigating the role of molecular and genetic mechanisms in neuronal function, reward-related learning, and addiction.

General Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision and a high level of independence, to set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals, including but not limited to:

  • collecting, entering and summarize data,
  • monitoring results and
  • reporting unusual outcomes.
  • Effectively communicating and participating with team members.

.Key Duties & Responsibilities

The Researcher II will work as part of a team to:

  1. Developing knowledge of routine lab protocols.
  2. Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  3. Writing and maintaining lab protocols.
  4. Contributing to research planning/design.
  5. Performing established laboratory assays.
  6. Running cell/tissue cultures, animal studies, etc.
  7. Collects, enters and summarizes data.
  8. Monitors results; detects and reports unusual outcomes..
  9. Assists in the maintenance and trouble-shooting of lab equipment and supplies.
  10. Contributing to lab organization and inventory management
  11. Performs basic statistical data analysis.
  12. Assistance with manuscript preparation.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.



$ 13.00 – $ 23.51 hourly


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • OR Associate’s degree and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

***The candidate should possess an Bachelor’s degree in a science related field or will possess a Bachelor’s degree in a science related field within the next 3-6 months, with preferably a year or more of relevant research experience.***


  • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biology, neuroscience, bioengineering, genetics, or a related field.
  • At least a year of relevant prior laboratory research experience.
  • Molecular biology experience (Strongly preferred).

Lab Information

The Day Lab uses the gene editing platforms, single-cell RNA and ATAC sequencing, cell culture models, electrophysiology, and in vivo behavioral approaches to understand genetic and transcriptional mechanisms in brain health and disease states.

This position will assist in active research projects using many molecular biology techniques, including RT-qPCR, RNA and DNA extraction, neuronal culture systems, molecular cloning, viral packaging, bacterial transformation, immunocytochemistry, microscopy, and CRISPR-based gene regulation.

There will also be opportunities to learn more complex transcriptional profiling approaches, bioinformatics, and RNA in situ hybridization
