Roles & Responsibilities:
The Karki Rajbhandari lab in the Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience (Friedman Brain Institute) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai has an opening for full-time postdoctoral researcher. This institute-funded research in the Karki Rajbhandari laboratory focuses on understanding the brain and body mechanisms of stress and fear along with cardiorespiratory and energy metabolism functions. To probe these questions, we use a combination of behavioral assays, genetically targeted viral and transgenic mouse lines, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, optogenetics or chemogenetics and confocal microscopy techniques. The lab is dedicated to a supportive, diverse and collaborative environment.Qualified candidate should have a PhD in neuroscience, psychology, or a related field. Candidates with animal behavior experiences, rodent surgeries, confocal imaging and molecular techniques are encouraged to apply. • Rodent viral surgeries at the level of brain regions and/or body organs
• Rodent behavior assays such as fear conditioning and open field
• Cardiorespiratory and metabolism measures
• Standard molecular biology techniques (PCR, recombinant gene cloning, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization)
• Preparation of reagents and solutions and buffers for experiments
• Animal handling, colony management, and genotyping
• Eager to learn new techniques, operate and manage lab equipment and personnelRequirements:
• PhD in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or a related field
• Research experience in rodent behavior and surgeries
• Excellent organizational, problem solving and analytical skills
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Knowledge of standard research concepts
