A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Mario Penzo, at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the Intramural Research Program (IRP) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Successful candidates will implement a multidisciplinary approach in mice to investigate the contributions of corticothalamic circuits to the formation of aversive memories and the selection of defensive behaviors. The NIH IRP has a highly dynamic, interactive, and collaborative environment that provides a vibrant atmosphere for scientific research. In addition, Postdoctoral Fellows of the IRP enjoy the support and resources of the Office of Intramural Training and Education and have the opportunity to compete for both intramural and extramural grants and awards, such as the NIGMS PRAT Award (https://www.nigms.nih.gov/training/pages/prat.aspx).

Candidates with experience in in vivo calcium imaging (multiphoton and/or miniaturized microscopes), electrophysiology (in vivo and/or ex vivo), and rodent behavior, will be given priority.

Our laboratory is located at the NIH Main Campus in the Porter Neuroscience Research Center (https://irp.nih.gov/catalyst/v22i3/porter-neuroscience-research-center). We have state-of-the-art facilities and core labs. In addition, the NIH offers excellent salary and health care packages to its trainees.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience or a related field, superior communication skills in English, a demonstrated record of accomplishments, and less than 5 years of research experience since receipt of the doctoral degree. Salary will be commensurate with experience
